It is easier and practical to comment, analyze, and review the experiences we already have, but is it possible to explain something you have never experienced. If you were to review a cake you have not eaten yet, how would it go?
To make it easier one would simply say – The best cake I have ever eaten.
But, this is leaving too much to chance. Because this cake can be just marginally better than all the cakes you have eaten so far and still qualify as best. Now, this is a cake you have not eaten so it can be anything that you can imagine Let’s try a better review.
One way to make it a better review is to add some descriptive adjectives to this cake, like your favorite flavor, color, taste, decor, etc, etc. How would this review look now –
The best chocolate cake I have ever put in my mouth. You think it is going to be dense and heavy, but it was very light and savory. Beautifully decorated, elegant, classy, stunning, and simply fabulous work of art all wrapped up in the cake of a lifetime! It was sooooo beautiful and very very yummy.
Another way to make it the best cake you have ever eaten is to attach emotion to it. Say it is a cake your sister baked for you on your graduation day, or your mother made for you on your birthday, or your coworker who has a hobby for baking cakes, just made one for you causally. Any of this will make the cake very special despite the actual characteristics we discussed above.
If you notice carefully you will realize that you are reviewing a cake you have not eaten, which means you have the freedom to choose whatever you want this cake to be. Despite the unlimited possibilities this cake holds, you are limited by your past experience and emotional ties. The same holds true for our dreams and aspirations, even though we have the freedom of unlimited possibilities, we restrict them to only things that we know or are connected to.
